Feeling safe, listened to, and genuinely cared for matters — especially in moments of medical uncertainty. One patient described their Emergency Department experience this way:
“Everyone was attentive, kind, considerate, and cared about me and my comfort and safety. I was having difficulty breathing, and they made me feel safe and well looked after."
This sense of reassurance and human connection comes through strongly in patient feedback across Island Health Emergency Departments. Even in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments, patients consistently describe staff who take the time to listen, explain, and provide compassionate care when it matters most.
Others shared how Emergency teams were there for them during critical moments, with one patient reflecting that without the care they received, they “probably would have died." Another spoke to the kindness they encountered throughout their visit, noting that “every single person was very attentive and kind."
Together, these voices highlight what patients value most in Emergency care: feeling safe, respected, and supported as a person, not just treated for a condition. These experiences reflect the dedication and professionalism of Emergency teams across Island Health.
If you'd like to explore more about what patients are saying across Emergency and other acute care settings, the Dynamic Analysis Reporting Tool (DART) for Patient Experience Survey Data is the platform that brings this feedback together. It houses patient‑reported comments and other survey insights that teams can use to celebrate strengths, reflect on experiences, and support ongoing improvement in care.
If you need your own access to the DART, you can register for an account right from the same page.
