Island Health is in the process of transitioning our Electronic Health Record (EHR) to a Remote Hosting Option (RHO) offered by Oracle Cerner.
Transitioning to RHO is important as it provides greater reliability and security. RHO also supports future upgrades to improve the provider experience and this option is used by other Oracle Cerner clients in British Columbia, including the Clinical System Transformation (CST) project on the Lower Mainland.
Transitioning to the remote hosting option will require an eight-hour downtime during which all Cerner EHR applications including PowerChart, FirstNet and SurgiNet will be unavailable.
The RHO transition downtime is scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, February 23, to 6.a.m. Saturday, February 24.
This downtime was initially scheduled for early February, however, critical Cerner specialists needed to support the transition were not available.
The delay in RHO transition will impact the CPOE activation dates for Victoria General Hospital (VGH), Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH), South Island Surgical Centre and Gorge Road Hospital by a matter of weeks. Medical and clinical leaders are currently being engaged regarding revised activation dates. We will share new dates as soon as possible.
What you need to do:
Please familiarize yourself with downtime procedures. Downtime instructions, including how to access clinical information during the RHO transition downtime, can be accessed via this intranet link: Downtime (islandhealth.ca)

We understand that the timing change has professional and personal impacts for many members of the medical staff, and we apologize that the timing change was necessary.
