Congratulations go out to Dr. Gordon Hoag on his retirement in July from Island Health. Dr. Hoag has been a valuable member of the Medical Staff community since 2000. Over the last 22 years, he has led the lab through numerous changes, including the automation line in chemistry at RJH; the Kiestra in microbiology at RJH; the creation of the island-wide disciplines for clinical pathology and the specialization model for AP; and the introduction of new tests including Trop T, BNP, flow cytometry, medical genetics and molecular testing. He has worked extensively to ensure the Island Laboratory is integrated into the broader provincial laboratory system. Dr. Hoag has always been a visionary leader, and Island Health is grateful for all he has done for the department.
“Gordon is a true champion for patient-centered quality care and has been the number one advocate for physician-driven quality improvement. The highly successful provincial Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) initiative resulted from Gordon's vision and determination to develop a QI training program for physicians, empowering physicians to apply improvement science to local level issues and promoting system level change.” Dr. Adele Harrison.
Thank you, Dr. Hoag, for all your contributions over the past 22 years. We wish you the very best in your well-deserved retirement.
