We are pleased to welcome Dr. Alison Croome as the new Medical Director, Renal Services.
Dr. Croome has worked as a nephrologist at NRGH in the Central Island Renal program since the opening of the NRGH renal unit in September 2010. She completed medical school at the University of British Columbia, Internal Medicine residency at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland and her Nephrology Fellowship at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She has a particular interest in home & independent dialysis therapies. During her training she travelled to Moshi, Tanzania as part of a team to establish a program for acute peritoneal dialysis. She has been the Central Island physician lead for the peritoneal dialysis program since its inception in 2012 and was Nephrology Site Lead at NRGH from 2012 - 2015.
Outside of the renal program, Dr. Croome is actively involved with the Nanaimo Medical Staff Association. She has held previous positions on their executive council and is currently a member of the advisory board, with a focus on bringing health care and resources closer to home for the growing Central & Northern Vancouver Island communities. In addition to her professional interests, she enjoys running, gardening, camping and spending as much time as possible outdoors with her family.
