There's still time to register for "Using Labs Wisely for Patients & Planet" on Friday, December 6.

This 1 hour virtual event focuses on implementing Using Labs Wisely. The session will be a combination of presentation and group discussion, providing an opportunity for us to come together and identify ways we can “Use Labs Wisely." Clinical staff involved in lab test ordering will get the most out of this session.

To make the most of our hour together, we would love to hear your input:

  1. What barriers do you experience for reducing lab test ordering?
  2. Do you have any ideas for discussion topics focused on Using Labs Wisely and climate conscious healthcare?

We invite everyone interested in climate conscious healthcare, and in reducing unnecessary lab testing for planetary health, to email MedStaffQI@islandhealth.ca and answer the questions above. Whether you can join us on December 6 or not, we are excited to hear from you!

Lab test ordering is the single highest volume medical activity in Canada. Recognizing our healthcare system is often faced with staff and resource shortages, alongside the climate crisis, it is more important than ever to focus on the right test, at the right time, for the right purpose. Reducing unnecessary lab tests has a measurable impact on our patients and on planetary health.

Health System Redesign funding is available to support fully-licensed FPs or SPs based on Vancouver Island at the standard non-clinical rate.

We look forward to Choosing Wisely together.
