Jackie McCallum, Supervisor, Health Information Management (HIM) registration, and Bindy Bains, Executive Director, HIM, have some fun removing paper forms that are no longer needed at VGH.

Congratulations to staff at Victoria General Hospital, South Island Surgical Centre and two sub-acute units at Gorge Road Health Centre for a successful Go-Live for computerized provider order entry (CPOE).

Site leaders Gillian Kozinka, Executive Director of Clinical Operations, and Dr. Chloe Lemire-Elmore, Medical Chief of Staff offered their thanks in a message to staff and medical staff sent out last week.

“Your effort has been nothing short of phenomenal. Despite challenges, we have managed the transition to electronic orders and closed-loop medication administration very well andLandscape PhotosCaptions (9).png are seeing significant adoption of the new system," they said.

The leaders attributed the sites' success to the strong focus on preparation prior to the September 14 launch, as well as to the robust support for new users of the system. They also acknowledged support from colleagues across Island Health, including experienced users of the CPOE system.

“We owe a huge thanks to colleagues at Nanaimo and the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their shared learnings. In turn, we will “pay it forward" and support colleagues at other Island Health sites going live in the future.

Support for CPOE and advanced EHR transitions

Now a month into using CPOE and other enhanced tools in the electronic health record (EHR), support for the site has transitioned. Calls for support have dropped in number, a sign that many are adapting to the new EHR and CPOE functions and associated workflows.

Read this memo to learn more about how VGH, SISC and GRH staff can now access support for CPOE and their work in the EHR.
