It is our great privilege to share that Dr. Robin Love has been appointed to the Order of British Columbia. The Order represents the highest form of recognition our province can extend to its citizens, and honours individuals who serve and excel in any field of endeavor. 2025 appointees will be invested at a ceremony at Government House in Victoria this September.
Dr. Love is a retired family and palliative care physician who has spent more than 30 years in service to individuals and their loved ones. Through mentorship, Dr. Love has broadened the breadth of his impact transforming palliative care services at Island Health, and further afield. His positive influence extends to global citizens too; Dr. Love facilitated the establishment of a national strategy for palliative care in Nepal, contributing countless hours to education and programs at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.
Dr. Love is compassionate, generous, and extremely tenacious—he was instrumental in opening Nanaimo’s first Palliative Care Unit in the 1990s. Dr. Love retired from his role as Medical Leader for the Palliative & End of Life Care Program at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in 2023. During his tenure, he established himself as a luminary in palliative care in the mid-Island region—advocating for his patients, their families, and transforming end-of-life care. He sought dignity for every patient, and has inspired countless physician colleagues, medical trainees, nurses, and healthcare professionals.
Dr. Love’s appointment corroborates his remarkable talent, dedication, and humanity. As colleagues, we are incredibly proud of him. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Love on this truly exceptional honour.
