As you may be aware, staff working on Friday, March 29, 2024 experienced a Cerner EHR service interruption during which the system slowed or froze when certain activities were performed. A Code Grey system outage was initiated for two hours, from 4:40 p.m. to 6:40 p.m.
Oracle Health identified the cause of the issue and applied the correction that evening. The root cause of the issue was human error during a routine system change, and Oracle Health have since conveyed their apologies for the system impact to our Island Health clinical users.
Island Health is working in partnership with Oracle Health leadership to ensure proactive checks are implemented to avoid this issue from happening again.
