Designed specifically to facilitate preventative screenings for unattached patients, CanScreen has facilitated more than 2500 screenings and diagnosed 22 cancers since opening in 2023.
The virtual cancer-screening clinic is run by two family physicians and the service is covered by MSP. Dr. Cal Shapiro and Dr. Stuart Bax started this service in Victoria and CanScreen is now spreading across the island. With support from Spreading Quality Improvement (SQI), follow up is now available in Comox, Port Alberni, and Nanaimo.
