The results from the Sequence 2 survey, which took place March 10-15, 2024, are now available, and we are pleased to announce that Island Health has received Accredited Status from Accreditation Canada.

The completion of Sequence 2 is significant, as it is the final survey in our current Accreditation cycle. It is Island Health's first time applying a Sequential Survey model with the goal of continuous quality improvement, versus the previous all-in-one survey.

In the report, Island Health was acknowledged for our commitment to providing safe, high-quality health services. This is a milestone to be celebrated!

Our commitment to a culture that embraces continuous quality improvement, even during challenging times, was very evident to the surveyor teams during both sequences. The surveyors highlighted how Island Health has evolved its attention to continuous improvement since the 2018 Survey. Specifically, they mentioned the provincial and regional approach to Infection, Prevention and Control, and the implementation of C.A.R.E Networks as examples of innovative strategies to ensure best practice across a complex health system. They also noted Island Health's commitment to patient and family-centred care, culturally safe spaces, and addressing the needs of Indigenous and rural populations.

Details, including surveyor observations and results from the full Accreditation Report are now available online. Customized reports for participating programs and C.A.R.E Networks have been distributed.  The C.A.R.E. networks and others will begin to review their reports and start planning for these results for ongoing quality improvement.

Thank you to everyone who worked to support the assessment. Every visit with a surveyor included the participation of many including our patient and family partners, clinical and support teams, volunteers, physicians, leaders, and community partners.

Thank you for making Accreditation a key part of your commitment to quality improvement and for your efforts to provide excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time. Please watch for Island Health's Accreditation team communications about future  initiatives & surveys.

With gratitude,
