8-Hr Downtime for the Cerner Electronic Health Record: How to Prepare

What's happening?

Cerner, Island Health's Electronic Health Record (EHR), will undergo an important upgrade. It will move from our current Kamloops Data Centre hosting to an Oracle Health hosted Canadian Data Centre. The transition involves a planned, region-wide downtime for all Cerner applications that run on the Citrix Workspace.

When is the downtime to Cerner EHR happening?

A planned 8-hour outage to the Cerner applications will take place from 10 p.m. on Friday, February 23 to 6.a.m. on Saturday, February 24.

The 8-hour planned outage is region-wide, impacting access to Cerner applications for all sites and services.

How can I prepare?

  • Check the location and availability of your Cerner 724 Downtime Viewer computers.
  • Review staffing levels to determine if you require additional staff during the downtime.
  • Familiarize yourself with standard downtime procedures by referring to Cerner EHR Applications Downtime during RHO Transition for more specific information on:
    • Preparing for downtime
    • Final steps to take prior to downtime
    • Downtime procedures
    • Recovering from downtime
