This year, respiratory virus activity is starting earlier than usual. When health-care workers get vaccinated and report their vaccination status, they support the health and safety of their co-workers, patients and loved ones.
Immunization continues to be the best protection against influenza and COVID-19. Starting October 13, influenza and COVID-19 vaccines will be available at local pharmacies through the provincial Get Vaccinated system. Increased access to vaccinations through community pharmacies has reduced the need for in-house options.
In response to feedback, our pharmacy partner, Heart Pharmacy, has expanded the number of site clinics to more locations. From October 13 - November 5, vaccination clinics will be available at some locations for staff, medical staff, volunteers and students.
What you need to do
- Get vaccinated
- Book an appointment at a local pharmacy, OR
- Visit a site clinic at some locations Oct 13 - Nov 5
- Report your vaccination status
Staff and medical staff must report their vaccination status – even if they didn't get a vaccine.
It is recommended to get influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time. Health-care workers are encouraged to be immunized for influenza and COVID-19. Under Island Health's Influenza Prevention Policy, staff who do not receive the influenza vaccine are expected to wear a mask during influenza season.
Staff that qualify for the RSV vaccine can receive one at a local pharmacy.
