Introducing Island Health's 2024/25 Priorities and Goals

Posted on: April 17, 2024

Last week, Island Health Leaders and representatives from Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee, our Nursing and Allied Health Advisory Committee, our Care Networks, and our Workplace Culture Council, met in Nanaimo. This was our biannual Leadership Summit to reflect back on 2023/24 and to transition to the 2024/25 organization-wide priorities, outcome goals and infrastructure requirements to create organization alignment.

This is an excerpt from President and CEO Kathy MacNeil's opening remarks that applies to each of us: We didn't choose health care as a career because it was going to be easy. We chose health care as a career because we wanted to make a difference in the lives of those who need help. It is important for us to always be reflecting – if something isn't working for us we need to think, 'Is there a better way? Is there a learning here we can take and try something else to improve?'

Reflecting on our work last year and where we are today, we are doing good work – yet there is much more that we need to do to advance us toward our Vision of excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time. We have accomplished a great deal and are humble enough to know we are not yet where we need to be. So we continue – to learn, to step forward into new places, to focus on achieving outcomes and getting to results that people can see, feel and touch.
