Memo - Changes in Retail Food Services

The following message has been sent to all Island Health staff and medical staff on behalf of Lynn Nabata, Director, Food Services

Due to the COVID-19 and to align with Island Health’s pandemic plan,  the following changes will be made to Retail Food Services in Island Health.

  • Food Services is discontinuing ‘customer self-serve stations’ for food items and replacing with ‘retail staff serving’ only. This includes, but is not limited to soup, coffee, and condiment and cutlery.
  • Individually wrapped food items, including  sandwiches, baked goods, and desserts will continue to be available
  • Utensils and condiments will be available from Retail staff
  • Changes will be made to Retail Seating Areas to allow for “social distancing”.   Additional measures, including full closure of seating areas, may become necessary in the next few days.
  • Cleaning of high touch areas will be enhanced. This includes extra cleaning of counters, door handles, debit machine pin pads, etc.
  • At this time, the self serve microwaves, toasters and ice/water machines will still be available with hand sanitizer or disinfestation wipes available.
  • Further changes may be forthcoming, as directed by Public Health officials.

Thank you for your understanding.
