We are proud and excited to announce that Island Health was selected as the only BC organization to join the Discover + Adopt program from the Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CABHI). Our Long-Term Care and Assisted Living Department will participate in the program over the next 18 months, thanks in large part to a collaboration with the team at Island Health's Cognitive Health Initiative.

By participating in the D+A Program, we will receive skill-building supports and up to $150,000 in funding to test, adopt and procure an innovative solution that can improve the quality of life and quality of care of those we serve in Long-Term Care (LTC).

From a recent resident, family and staff engagement survey, the LTC program learned that independent and autonomous movement between easily accessible outdoor and indoor social and private spaces is important, and currently a challenge for many – especially residents who live with cognitive decline.

As participants in the Discover + Adopt program, Island Health LTC seeks an innovative solution that will improve independent mobility of LTC residents within their communities. The solution should enable residents to move freely and safely, facilitate opportunities for social interaction and meaningful daily experiences, and take into account responsive behaviors.

This work is in line with the LTC department's vision is to make every moment matter for each person, and our mission to create vibrant and innovative LTC communities that nurture and inspire hope, choice and meaning.
