The Medical Lead, Mental Health Substance Use Youth Addiction – Island wide - is a co-leadership position with operational decision-making responsibilities. With the position’s Co-Leader, the Medical Lead works proactively with others (including patients) to enhance teamwork (including collaboration between medical staff and staff) and to facilitate continuous quality improvement of Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use services within Island Health. The position will ensure easier access to this specialized service for children and youth. This position reports to the Executive Medical Director of Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services.
Main responsibilities of this position:
- Leadership: Co-leads activities to ensure medical staff and staff work as a team to monitor and improve service delivery.
- Operations & Quality: Implements processes and structures to engage medical staff and staff in continuous quality improvement of service delivery; Monitors team budget and performance jointly with Co-Leader and makes course corrections when necessary; Initiates investigations of team-related PSLS and PCQO events.
- Change Management: Acts as change management ‘champion’ to engage and support physicians and staff through change.
- Informatics: Leads team activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery using the electronic health records (EHR) in collaboration with the Quality Systems team.
- Planning: Assesses, monitors and anticipates team resource needs and works with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
Key Deliverables or Performance Expectations:
- Provide leadership and education Youth and Family Substance Use services and contracted affiliates.
- Provide leadership to Physicians and Nurse Practitioners including guidance and education specific to management of youth with substance use concerns.
- Participate in Leaders in Youth and Family Substance Use Service (LYFSUS) quarterly meetings
Liaise with the Central Island and Comox Valley Adolescent Psychiatry Programs regarding youth with concurrent presentations.
Additional contract content
- Will work collaboratively in a co-leadership model with assigned administrative lead
- Chairs or co-chairs relevant team committees
- Will use Island Health email address as primary email address for work related to this position
- Will participate in orientation and training
Qualifications, Education, Training and Experiences
BCCNM License or/
Full CPSBC licensure
Shift/Hours of Work
