The migration/transfer to Cloud Services SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams (expanded Teams capabilities) is officially here:

This move is part of Island Health's continuous dedication to improving collaboration, communication, and, most importantly, patient care. By embracing these innovative tools, Island Health is taking a significant step forward in empowering our teams to work more effectively and deliver exceptional service.

Phase 1 of the project will begin this month with sites located on connect.islandhealth.ca. Please be patient— this is a very large undertaking and it is likely to take upwards of two years to complete all Island Health sites.

To find out more about the new features that you can expect to have available using SharePoint Online, please see Learning Pathways: SharePoint

Action to take when your site is scheduled to be migrated:

If you are a SharePoint site owner, look out for an email from the Collaboration and Web Services (CWS) project team which will detail the timelines and necessary steps to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to the migrated site.  The CWS team will be organizing meetings and discussions to guide you through the migration process and answer your questions related to the following key aspects of the migration:

  • Site Structure: As part of this migration, we encourage each team to take the opportunity to design a site structure in SharePoint Online that best suits your workflow and management needs.
  • Document Management: Once your site structure is defined, you'll begin organizing your files within the new system for better management and easier access.
  • Old Data Cleanup: We encourage you to review and delete outdated or unnecessary files as part of the migration.  Cleaning up old data will ensure a smoother transition and help optimize storage.
  • Migration Champion: Each group should nominate a migration champion who will act as the main liaison for the migration. This individual will work closely with the CWS team to ensure a smooth transition for your department.
