Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, community members banged pots and pans at 7 p.m. every evening, and their messages of hope went a long way to make our frontline hospital staff feel supported and appreciated. But our hospitals will continue to feel the effects of the pandemic for years to come, and we need a supportive community more than ever.
Many of you—our Victoria caregivers and hospital staff—have been referred to as the 'heroes' in our hospitals. And, although we recognize the sacrifices and extraordinary experiences you have been through and continue to go through, we also recognize that you are human.
You have lives outside of our hospitals. You have family and friends. Interests and hobbies. And we want to remind our community of this. You are human, and you all have your own personal triumphs and heartbreaks. You all have a story to tell.
We invite you to read the inspiring #HumansFirst stories from your Island Health colleagues, published in Sunday's Times Colonist newspaper.
If you are interested in sharing your story and being featured in the #HumansFirst series, please contact Jenny Boychuk, Marketing and Communications Senior Coordinator for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation at Jenny.Boychuk@islandhealth.ca.
