Critical Incident Response at RJH/VGH

Updated on: June 29, 2022

As you may have seen on the news, there was a serious incident in Saanich on Tuesday morning that resulted in multiple people requiring emergency medical care.critical_response_msg.jpg

RJH Emergency was briefly placed on restricted access while a risk assessment was undertaken, and Emergency Departments at VGH and RJH mobilized quickly to ensure capacity to accommodate patients as needed.

I want to thank and recognize our care teams at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals for stepping up, as they always do, to provide high-quality care when people need it most. They are always ready when emergencies occur and for that we are all grateful.

We know treating patients in situations like this can take an emotional toll on our care teams, and we encourage you to reach out if needed. If you require Critical Incident Stress Debriefing please connect with your leader who will arrange through the Health Wellness and Safety Team.  If any member of the Island Health family needs individual support please connect with our Employee and Family Assistance Program.

Thank you for all that you do.

A MESSAGE FROM THE VICTORIA POLICE DEPARTMENT:

I wanted to reach out to thank you for the assistance and incredible care the medical staff at both RJH and VGH offered to our injured police officers yesterday. I understand that both ER's took incredible steps to prepare for the arrival of our officers and provided the best possible care.  vpd.png

Please share our deepest appreciation with everyone who supported our officers yesterday and for those that continue to do so today.

Much appreciated,
