Community Information

Ideally situated on Southern Vancouver Island, just 20 kilometers west of Victoria, the Western Communities include Langford, Colwood, Metchosin and the Highlands. This fast-growing community offers a variety of housing and commercial centres as well as ample recreation opportunities.

Langford is truly a city surrounded by nature. With countless trails to explore, one can experience the thrill of the Sooke Hills Suspension Bridge, summit the epic Mt. Finlayson and kick back in Veterans Memorial Park, all within city limits. With an expansive series of trails for mountain biking, challenge yourself to experience nature in a new way.

Colwood is a fast growing, family-friendly seaside community that enjoys a rich heritage, a unique connection to nature and incredible potential. The City is poised for significant growth and change with new developments in the heart of Colwood and along the waterfront at Royal Bay and Royal Beach where new homes, schools, shopping, dining and businesses are currently being built on nearly 500 acres of land set along the ocean. The City's has out a strong vision that will ensure the community maintains its natural, historical, family friendly feel as it enjoys the benefits that growth will bring. With this unique combination of community, nature, and growth, home buyers and businesses are taking a fresh look at Colwood.

Metchosin has a rural ambience: properties are generally large, allowing home businesses, agriculture and animal husbandry to flourish. Some of the roads are narrow and winding, there are no sidewalks and only a few streetlights.

Metchosin’s heritage includes both the natural and agricultural landscape and significant older houses and structures in neighbourhoods. There are magnificent mountain views, fine beaches, active farmland and hedgerows, fine stands of old growth trees, lakes, streams, an ambitious trail system and many fine parks.

Highlands is a primarily residential community, rural in nature, and blessed with an exceptional abundance of scenic beauty, native plant and animal life, and public parkland. Those of us who live here place high value on the natural environment and our rural lifestyle. Highlanders are actively involved in the community, which fosters a spirit that is both self-reliant and cooperative.
