Welcome, Dr. Affram, to your new role of Medical Lead, Pediatrics at West Coast General Hospital. We asked Dr. Affram a few questions; here is what he had to say.
Where did you complete medical school and residency?
I received my basic medical training at the University of Ghana Medical School (MB ChB), followed by my specialist training at North Western Deanery with a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and continued at the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) in the UK.
Why did you choose your field of specialty?
My choice of the field of Pediatrics relates to the immediate impact on a sick child and the family. This tends to be readily notable and heartwarming.
What is most meaningful to you about practicing medicine?
The practice of medicine makes a whole world of difference to the sick as well as prevention of illness.
What are your professional interests and notable achievements?
My professional interests have varied over time as I have progressed through the various specialties.
Regarding notable achievements, I don't feel I have got there yet and am still working on it.
What are your hopes for the future of healthcare?
My hope for the future of healthcare revolves around it becoming universally available and not just for those who can afford it.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Some of the hobbies I enjoy are cars and driving, basketball and a few more sports, and watching soccer (especially my favourite team).
