The five physicians of Vancouver Island's West Coast are looking to recruit a physician to join our highly rewarding, multi-clinic group practice. We provide longitudinal full scope primary care services to residents of the West Coast via multiple clinics – Ahousat Medical Clinic, Tonquin Medical Center (Tofino), Ucluelet Medical Center, Hitacu Health Center, and Ty Histanis Health Center – as well as Emergency Room and inpatient care at Tofino General Hospital.
Clinics are well established, with a fully integrated EMR. We typically work 3-4 clinic days/week and approximately 6-8 on-calls shifts per month at Tofino General Hospital. The Hospital is a ten-bed acute care hospital, with an Emergency Room that can be exceptionally busy and lucrative with the influx of tourism. Summer weekends are covered by locums, and locum vacation relief through the year is typically easy to secure, given the desirability of our location. The hospital is a UBC Island Medical School Program residency teaching site and has a well-established and broad range of visiting specialists.
We are looking for a physician with flexibility to work across multiple clinics, and core values in collaboration, diversity, and cultural safety. We are a very collegial group and are supported by excellent nursing and ancillary health support (rehab, MSHU, Home & Community Care) from Island Health, Nuu chah nulth (NTC) Health Services, and other community partners. We have very close relationships with our community partners, and a very active and innovate Divisions of Family Practice Chapter (Community based) and Facilities Engagement (hospital based). There is also potential opportunity for clinical innovation through Divisions-supported PCN work, as well as expansion of services to surrounding First Nations communities via collaboration with FNHA's Primary Care Initiative (PCI).
Physician with previous rural and First Nations medical experience and commitment to rural excellence is desirable.
