Physician Quality Improvement (PQI)

Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) is a professional development and education program for Community or Facility-based Medical Staff who want to enhance their QI capacity, build connections with colleagues, and create a continuous improvement culture to transform our local health system. The PQI curriculum was specifically designed by Medical Staff, for Medical Staff to give you tools you can apply in real time.

Join our local community of over 100 Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to start a well supported, fun, QI journey!

The Island Health PQI team offers online learning, introductory workshops and a comprehensive 12-month Cohort training program to all Medical Staff, including privileged Family Physicians, Specialists, Midwives and Nurse Practitioners. It is the only QI education program that offers:

  • CPD/CME accreditation and up to $26,700 in funding for community or facility-based physicians licensed in B.C. (168 hours at JCC-rate)
  • Engaging virtual and in-person workshops led by an expert faculty team of Alumni physicians and PQI staff
  • The opportunity to practice the QI methodology by leading a learning project with a team to address a gap in care in your area – with the support of experienced physician mentors, staff coordinators, graphic designers and data analysts!
  • Ability to apply as a group to co-lead a project with a physician, midwife, or NP on your team, or another team that is impacted by the gap in care you’d like to address

Build Connections with peers across Vancouver Island:

A huge part of quality improvement centers around the team. We like to say that QI is a team sport and our program not only allows you to build stronger connections with your local team, but also with your peers across the health authority.

To celebrate the successes from the cohort program, graduates get an opportunity to share their experiences. Listen to what some had to say.

PQI is a partnership between Specialist Services Committee and Island Health. Learn more about SSC initiatives here.
