Port Hardy drug-checking news
The Port Hardy Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) office offers a new drug-checking service during business hours. Individuals can visit the office at 7070 Shorncliffe Avenue from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., to have their substance samples checked and receive results within 20 minutes.

Protecting Patient Privacy with Approved Virtual Care Solutions
During the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health granted exceptions to facilitate a swift shift to virtual care solutions, ensuring uninterrupted access to healthcare. It's important to note that these exceptions are no longer applicable, and Island Health continues to adhere to the regulations outlined in the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)

January 31st Deadline – Adoption of New Mental Health Act Forms 4.1 & 4.2
All B.C. health authorities are required to implement the new Mental Health Act (MHA) medical certificates (Form 4.1 and Form 4.2) by January 31, 2024. The old medical certificate (Form 4) will no longer be legally recognized effective February 1, 2024.

Late Radiation-Associated Dysphagia (Late RAD): Information for the Primary Care Network:
Late radiation-associated dysphagia (late RAD) is a relatively rare (3-8%) new or progressive onset of severe oropharyngeal dysphagia following a long period of stable functioning after head and neck radiation. The Speech and Language Pathologists at BC Cancer – Victoria would like you to be aware of this possibility in your patients who have undergone head and neck radiation therapy in the past years and encourage you to make referrals accordingly.
