Welcome New Co-Medical Lead - Dr. Stacey McDonald

Welcome Dr. Stacey McDonald to the Co-Medical Lead Long Term Care, Geography 3 (Cowichan Valley and Salt Spring Island) role.

Dr. McDonald completed medical school at the University of Calgary and U of C Family Practice Residency at Rockyview/Holy Cross Hospitals.

Dr. McDonald chose family practice as it provided a broad range of medical knowledge across all age groups.  “I initially practiced rural family medicine doing ER, obstetrics, geriatrics and general family practice for 11 years in Provost AB and Merritt, BC. I had intended to eventually specialize in something as I felt that it would fit my personality better but found I enjoyed family medicine and stayed with it.”  Dr. McDonald finds meaning in medical practice from the interactions with patients and educating them about their health – physical, mental and emotional well-being and being there to support them through difficult personal and health challenges.  Current professional interests include: General Family Medicine, Care of the Elderly, and LTC interests include patient and family experience.  Dr. McDonald ‘hopes for the future of healthcare’ is for more emphasis on preventative measures to improve health throughout a person’s life from infancy to senior and inclusive of mental health.

When not practicing medicine Dr. McDonald can be found working in the yard, reading and visiting with friends and has developed an interest in gardening and climate change action and supports the local Somenos Marsh Society by volunteering in habitat restoration.
