Welcome New Medical Leader

New Medical Lead, Health Point Care Centre, Dr. Phil Prendergast

 

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Phil Prendergast as the new Medical Lead, Health Point Care Centre, effective October 1, 2020.

Dr. Prendergast brings a diversity of medical experience to the position. He completed medical school at the University of Toronto and did a rotating internship with the Greater Victoria Hospital Society in 1991-92. 

After completing his internship Dr. Prendergast choose General Practice as he felt it allowed him the ability to learn and practice a broad range of medical knowledge and skills. Helping patients to understand their medical conditions so that they are empowered to cope and manage their conditions more effectively is an important aspect of practice for Dr. Prendergast.

Prior to joining Island Health Dr. Prendergast enjoyed an interesting medical career in the Canadian Armed Forces supporting the delivery of medical care to the Army, Navy and Air Force in Canada, at sea and on overseas deployments. 

Dr. Prendergast continues to be pleased to see increasing focus and support on the delivery of Primary Care and hopes in the future to see more patients attached to Primary Care Practitioners.

When not providing care Dr. Prendergast can be found staying healthy and active practicing yoga, running and cycling, as well as enjoying a round of golf.
