Re: Expression of Interest for Clinical Governance Committees - Extended to May 17
By now many of you will be aware that medical leaders and staff are being encouraged to submit Expressions of Interest to join new clinical governance committees and become part of the team leading quality improvement for our patients. This is an important opportunity for medical staff to provide meaningful input and help shape the future of care and quality improvement across Island Health.
This Expression of Interest will identify members of new quality structures called C.A.R.E. Networks, which will be responsible for identifying, implementing and sustaining quality and safety improvements for 13 major Island-wide services: Critical Care, Medical Imaging, Emergency Medicine, Home and Community Care, Laboratory Medicine, Long-Term Care, Medicine, Mental Health & Substance Use, Pediatrics, Perinatal, Newborn & Women’s Health, Primary Care, Rehabilitative / Restorative Health and Surgery.
We appreciate the time pressures and competing priorities that you face. The C.A.R.E. Networks are designed to operate with maximum efficiency, with a total monthly time commitment of five hours to prepare for and attend two meetings. The meeting schedule will be set a year in advance and a new secretariat will be in place to help members plan and manage their committee work. Payment is being determined by Physician Compensation.
This will not be the only opportunity to get involved in quality improvement, however. Specialty Service Area committees will be set up in the fall, and design of local quality structures will take place in the coming months.
If your interest is focused on the designated Specialty Service Areas – Trauma, Heart Health, Brain Health, Renal and Specialty Geriatrics – please wait until the fall, when those committees will be established. If your specialty is not currently reflected in the model please consider applying to the C.A.R.E. Network that most closely aligns with your interest and expertise.
You can find more information about C.A.R.E. Networks and the Expression of Interest on the Medical Staff website and Island Health’s Intranet. For quick answers or clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to the clinical governance improvement team CGII@islandhealth.ca
Sincerely,
Dr. Ben Williams
