Data Access

Island Health’s Clinical Information Support department captures and provides subject matter expertise on clinical and administrative data from hospital patient records. The data sets are collected locally, and standardized and reported provincially and nationally.

Island Health’s Decision Support department is mandated to provide information in a timely manner to support decision-making across Island Health. Data generated by the many aspects of patient care and Island Health business are transferred into meaningful information.

Data access requests can be sent to

Policy Development Process

All Island Health policies, procedures and guidelines (i.e., formal documents) need to be developed and approved using established processes and templates.  The Policy Stewardship Team is available to help support at every phase.  If a formal document is the believed to be right tool to address the service gap or need, the first step in the policy development process is to check what may already be in existence, including legislation, from other health authorities, or currently on the Island Health intranet. Further steps to develop Island Health-approved policies, procedures and guidelines are listed on the secure intranet.  If you require assistance, email and check with the Medical Staff Governance team.
