Vaccine second dose re-scheduled

New January 25

On January 25th provincial update, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that Pfizer vaccine supply delays are even more significant than was initially anticipated for at least the next two weeks. To ensure B.C. can support our outbreak response and continue the vaccination program, Dr. Henry has directed that second doses will be given on day 42 for the time being. This is still within the second dose window as supported by the World Health Organization and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization in Canada (read more here).

Based on this direction, and to manage our current limited supply in Island Health, we are rescheduling second doses for one week later than originally booked. In the short-term this means more people in B.C. will receive protection from dose one, while staying on track with second doses – but at day 42 instead of day 35 for the time being. For individuals who are being contacted to have your second dose appointment moved from day 35 to day 42 we recognize the impact this may have on you and appreciate your patience as we work through the impacts of the Pfizer supply challenges.
