NRGH celebrates 60TH birthday with fundraising record

Posted on: January 10, 2023

The annual Light the Trees fundraising event for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation has generated over $1.3 Million for NRGH, exceeding our fundraising goal by 73%! The majority of gifts will benefit Phase 2 of their Intensive Care Unit, which is a future High Acuity Unit at NRGH.

Proceeds will also support multiple essential areas of the Hospital, including the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment, patient comfort items, and education for healthcare providers.

The Light the Trees fundraiser kicked off in November and ran through December, highlighted by the wonderful light display adorning the front entrance of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, sponsored by Nanaimo's Wenner Electric. Wenner Electric expanded their gift of Christmas cheer to light up the Emergency Department and Ambulatory entrances to further brighten spirits of health care workers, patients and families.

The fundraiser also saw the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation successfully launch our first Giving Tuesday campaign on November 29th. The single-day event raised $142,000 to fund a Sentimag System that will aid in the treatment of patients experiencing breast cancer.

In total, over 2,000 individual gifts and 1,700 donors led to the Light the Trees fundraising record total of $1.3 Million!
