Island Health is proud to take part in Canadian Patient Safety Week 2019. Along with the Canadian Patient Safety Institute, Island Health is spreading the mission to #ConquerSilence by encouraging patients and health-care professionals to come together to reduce patient harm.
Medical staff and Island Health employees came together in Victoria to kick-off the week and hear from patients, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jeremey Etherington and the Quality, Safety and Improvement leadership team.
Preventable harm while receiving medical care is the third leading cause of death in Canada, behind cancer and heart disease.
Island Health is committed to cultivating a culture of safety that emphasizes our shared responsibility in providing high quality, evidence-based care.
Patient safety is an organizational, team and personal responsibility. A culture of safety happens when teams are engaged in regular examination of the systems and processes that impact patient care.
By working together to enhance our learning and making proactive, sustainable improvements, we embody our shared values and reinforce our commitment to patients and their families.
