Province-wide restrictions

  • By order and direction of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), all individuals, places of work and businesses in B.C. must significantly reduce their level of social interactions and travel.

An open letter from the Island's Medical Health Officers

  • The number of positive cases across Island Health is increasing, and increasing at a rate that causes us great concern. In the past two weeks, we saw 117 new cases, compared to 24 new cases in the previous two weeks. We must turn this trend around.

NRGH outbreak update

  • No new COIVD cases associated with the November 11 Nanaimo Regional General Hospital outbreak. 

Midwives may now perform COVID-19 tests

  • Dr. Bonnie Henry issued a public health order on November 16 to allow midwives to perform COVID-19 screening activities.

PPE and Critical Supplies for Midwives

  • The Ministry of Health announced this week that it is now allocating PPE to midwives at no cost for all clinical encounters.

Adult Rinse and Gargle Testing Now Available

  • BCCDC rinse and gargle test instructions for adults.

New Resources to Support Essential Visits and Decision Making

  • Resources to help balance the safest number of visits possible, protect the health and safety of all, and meet the needs of individuals and their family member/support person.

COVID-19 Office Safety Plan Support Grant for BC’s Community Physicians

  • Doctors with community offices in BC may be eligible for a $1,000 grant from the Joint Collaborative Committees.

  • The celebration of excellence awards are peer-nominated Island Health Awards to recognize a well-deserving medical staff member, staff member or team.
