The Canadian Medical Association has officially declared May 1 as National Physicians’ Day in order to recognize the Canadian medical profession and its contributions to the country’s history and national identity. May 1 was chosen to honour the birthday of the first woman to practice medicine in Canada and a founder of Canada’s women’s movement, Dr. Emily Stowe.
On behalf of Island Health, I would like to thank the more than 2,000 physicians who have chosen to practice medicine with us, and am proud to be a member of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Medical Staff. Our physicians represent Island Health in a variety of settings, bringing their skills, dedication, expertise and teamwork to our patients and their families. Their ongoing commitment to providing the highest standard of care to the people we serve helps Island Health live up to our vision of excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time.
Please take a moment to join me in thanking our physicians today in recognition of National Physician’s Day.
