Are you interested in influencing the Island health system at a high level? Consider applying to be the next Vice-Chair of the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee. Medical staff are encouraged to apply to the position today. This medical governance role assists the Chair of HAMAC as an advisor to Island Health Board of Directors while collaborating with the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. As Vice-Chair you will influence system decision making and make recommendations to the Board regarding medical staff appointments and privileges and the quality of care in Island Health facilities. You will also act as Chair of HAMAC periodically and participate in HAMAC sub-committees.
The Vice-Chair of HAMAC assists the Chair in advising the Board and CEO on matters related to medical care, quality, medical staff resources and continuing education, and planning to meet the future needs of the population.
HAMAC Chair, and former Vice-Chair, Dr. David Butcher said the role gave him a unique perspective on the Island health-care system. “The Vice-Chair role allows one to participate at a high-level directly with the Board and senior executives” says Dr. Butcher. “You get to drive the quality agenda at the system level and translate how we deliver medical care to the Board.”
Island Health’s Board of Directors is very interested in quality and HAMAC’s direct reporting structure makes the Vice-Chair role significant. “In addition to the influence, the role also allows one to learn more about other medical departments and specialities” says Dr. Butcher.
If you are an active member of the medical staff, have medical leadership experience and are familiar with the medical staff rules and bylaws, this position is for you.
