The Department of Psychiatry at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) has opportunities for full-time Psychiatrists to join a collegial team of 10 Psychiatrists in Nanaimo.
We seek Psychiatrists to support outpatient and inpatient practice including provision of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Applicants with ECT training will be considered an asset. Applicants without ECT training will be required to complete training to provide this needed service.
Community services consist of mobile crisis response, walk-in crisis counseling clinic as well as community mental health and substance use teams providing treatment, rehab support and supported housing options for adults.
Acute services are provided at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital which has 224 acute care beds and a 24-bed inpatient psychiatry unit. In September 2012 our new Emergency Department opened which a 6-bed Psychiatric intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Psychiatric Emergency Unit (PES). NRGH is a UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program site providing opportunities for teaching and academic affiliation.
