Expression Of Interest in the COVID-19 Immunization Program has Re-Opened

Expression of Interest for Midwives, Nurse Practitioners and Physicians interested in being part of the COVID-19 Immunization Program within Island Health

Are you a midwife, nurse practitioner or physician who is interested in joining Island Health’s COVID-19 immunization team?

We are interested in hearing from current or recently retired (within past 3-years) professionals willing to play a variety of roles within our COVID-19 immunization clinics, in communities across Island Health.

Please express your interest by completing the following survey: Time commitment and locations vary, so please indicate your preferences when applying. Questions can also be submitted directly to

NOTE: If you have already identified your interest through a previous process, the Division of Family Practice, the Doctors of BC, or are a retired physician who has been in contact with Island Health’s Medical Affairs Department, you do not need to re-apply.

We will be connecting with interested individuals in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for your support.

A few things to know about this opportunity:

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering much anticipated COVID-19 vaccines to the population living within the Island Health geography. Plans for vaccine delivery are changing rapidly based on provincial direction. Depending on the day, location and your registration status, you may play a variety of roles designated for health professionals, including: assessing patients; preparing vaccines; administering and documenting immunizations; monitoring patients, post-vaccination; and, more. A safe, flexible, team-based approach will be key to success in this changing context. Clinics are being organized and opened now and will be increasing in size and scope through the months of March and April. We will be contacting applicants as quickly as we can to assess their qualifications, fit and availability, and to assign them to an immunization clinic.

* Please note: nurses, pharmacists, paramedics and other regulated professions covered by a collective agreement are invited to apply to the Expression of Interest specific to their bargaining association click here. Medical, Midwifery or Nursing Students will be engaged through alternate channels in alignment with their educational institutions.

Time commitments are somewhat flexible and clinic hours and duration will vary by community and month. Most clinics will be operating 7-days a week, morning to evening, from now until November. We ask you to indicate your general availability (full-time, part-time, or casual/ad-hoc) and preference for days, evenings and/or weekends in your application. You need to complete online training aligned with your professional designation, as per BCCDC Education and Training Recommendations  for Immunizers, approximately 1.5 hours.

  • You will be scheduled using the same system and processes as other health care professionals in the clinic, in alignment with your preference for full-time, part-time or ad-hoc shifts. Further details will be provided during the assessment and intake step.
  • Joining the immunization team will not change when you receive your vaccination. You will be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment to support your safety and protection when working in the clinic; and, you will continue to be scheduled for your immunization based on the provincially prescribed timelines for your age and risk cohort.
  • Rates of pay vary by profession and will be aligned with GP sessional rates for Physicians, primary care service contract rates for Nurse Practitioners, or consultative care fees for Midwives. You will not be employed by Island Health. Island Health representatives will connect with you following your application to communicate details regarding a rate of pay and contract arrangements.
