Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is a 250 bed hospital serving a catchment area of 250,000 people. We service a growing community with one of the busiest emergency departments on the island and an aging population. We have a 10 room operating theatre fully equipped for minimally invasive surgery. There is also a two room endoscopy unit. There is ready access to a wide range of other specialty support including critical care, nephrology, cardiology radiology and all surgical subspecialties with the exception of thoracic and neurosurgery.
The successful candidate will join a collegial group of seven surgeons with a wide-ranging practice in general surgery, basic and advanced laparoscopy and full endoscopy. They will hold, or be eligible for, certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
The successful candidate will have the requisite skills to participate in an endoscopy program, including screening colonoscopies. Full participation in the NRGH General Surgery on-call roster, including rotating through an acute service, is a requirement. Acute service experience at a busy regional center is a decided asset.
The successful candidate will establish an active outpatient General Surgery practice, as well as providing in-patient consultation and MRP responsibilities.
