The Department of Laboratory Medicine, Pathology and Medical Genetics at Island Health is seeking a 1.0 FTE Medical Microbiologist. The Microbiology Laboratory at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC is the reference centre for regional microbiology services for the island population of 864,000 persons.  Across the region, over 300,000 inpatient and outpatient specimens are processed annually, including diagnostic procedures in the areas of general bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology and molecular-based techniques. The successful physician will be team oriented and join five other Medical Microbiologists in providing diagnostic laboratory oversight, teaching rounds, committee work, infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, administrative tasks and consultations to clinicians in all areas relating to the diagnosis, management and prevention of infections.

Interest in diagnostic stewardship and in the above diagnostic laboratory areas would best complement and fulfill the needs of the Microbiology Division.  Vancouver Island is home to the Island Medical Program, a satellite of the University of British Columbia and there will be an opportunity for faculty appointment, academic program delivery and clinical research for the appropriate candidate.

The candidate must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical Microbiology, or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in British Columbia.
