The Victoria Department of Psychiatry is looking for a General Psychiatrist to provide part-time services Consultation Liason Services to Long Term Care facilities in South Island. 

Long Term Care (LTC) in the South Island covers a number of Island Health and licensed facilities. Over 300 under 75 yr old residents in LTC have major mental health diagnosis including schizophrenia, neuropsychiatric disorders (Huntingtons), brain injury and substance use disorders. Comorbidity depression and anxiety disorders are additional burdens of disease in this population. 

The successful candidate would provide consultation and ongoing support to this population. The tasks would include psychiatric assessment, assisting with designing behavior care plans and psychopharmacological interventions. Included would be managing extended leaves under the Mental Health Act of BC in conjunction with the care facility Most Responsible Physician and staff.

All residents will have a Most Responsible Physician that will be responsible for screening assessments and referrals, as well as dealing with on call issues in the facilities. The Consult Liaison Psychiatrist will be required to respond to requests in a non emergent way during regular working hours. Attendance to clients should be direct and the use of telehealth as needed.

Participation in the South Island General Psychiatry call rotation is a requirement of this position. 

Involvement in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program is encouraged. A University of BC affiliated appointment and membership in the Division of General Psychiatry is available.

FRCPC Eligible (mandatory)
FRCPC (desired)
Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC
Experience with severe and persistent mental illness and concurrent disorders in team-based inpatient, emergency and CL settings.  
Experience in teaching, quality assurance and quality improvement.
