The Medical Director CTU is a medical leadership position that ensures high quality education in hospital-based Internal Medicine is delivered to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. The CTU Director also oversees ongoing faculty development as guided by teaching evaluations by trainees. The CTU Director is a joint position between Island Health and the University of British Columbia.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Education: ensures appropriate ratio of service-to-education for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, organizes weekly subspecialty teaching rounds
  2. Patient Safety: addresses patient safety concerns arising from all cases encountered on the CTU
  3. Faculty Development: fosters ongoing improvement of teaching and leadership among attending faculty
  4. Administration: liaises with the administrative coordinator of the CTU, the Clinical Nurse Leaders (“CNL”) of the CTU and Emergency Department, and the CTU Unit Manager
  5. Assessment: oversees the final assessments of all trainees on the CTU
  6. Patient care: participate as an attending physician on the CTU
