The Department of Psychiatry at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is seeking a six-month locum Psychiatrist to join a collegial team of 10 Psychiatrists in Nanaimo.

The emphasis of this position is primarily on inpatient psychiatry with some relief coverage for Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) and Psychiatric Intensive Care (PIC), with participation in on-call services. Acute services are provided at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital which has 224 acute care beds and a 24-bed inpatient psychiatry unit.  In September 2012 our new Emergency Department opened which a 6-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Psychiatric Emergency Unit.

NRGH is a UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program site providing opportunities for teaching and academic affiliation.

Nanaimo, population 90,000, is a growing and vibrant urban centre situated on the east coast

of Vancouver Island, located approximately 100 kilometers north of Victoria and offers

excellent access via commercial flights, float plane or ferry to Vancouver. The community

waterfront Port Theatre, the Vancouver Island University and is adjacent renowned private

schools.
