The Comox Valley Campus of the North Island Hospital in the beautiful and family-friendly Comox Valley is seeking a full time General Internal Medicine specialist. Applicants must hold Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) certification or equivalent, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Preference given to applicants with an interest in hematology.
The successful applicant will join a collegial group of internists including 5 general internists, 2 GIM/Intensivists, a respirologist, an endocrinologist and a gastroenterologist. Clinical duties will include inpatient GIM coverage including weeks of telemetry unit coverage. The ICU rotation is fully subscribed, so it is not anticipated that daytime ICU weekly rotations would be included at this time. Participation in the medicine call schedule is mandatory with a 1:9 frequency of night call which includes cross covering the community-level ICU with an experienced colleague on back-up call with you. Overnight call is supported by MOCAP funding. Candidates will also be expected to engage in an outpatient general internal medicine practice to support the growing need for internal medicine services in our community. There will be opportunity to participate in interpreting hospital based ECGs, Holter monitors and Exercise Stress tests.
In addition to clinical duties, the successful applicant will work with hospital administration and their colleagues to support local educational activities including teaching the UBC medical students, Family Practice residents, and Internal Medicine residents. There will be opportunities to participate in coordinating multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives. Candidates may qualify for recruitment incentives through the Ministry of Health Rural Subsidy Agreement.
There is a requirement that the successful candidate establish a community based practice in the Comox Valley.
The Comox Valley medical community is a collegial group of physicians, dentists and midwives who share common values of medical excellence and a balanced lifestyle. This balance includes great programs and facilities for families and the availability of outstanding year-round recreational activities.
We look forward to receiving applications from qualified physicians who would seriously consider making the Comox Valley their home. In the interim, locum opportunities may also be available, which would afford an opportunity to experience Comox first-hand.
May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
Recruitment Incentive - $10,000; Relocation Assistance - up to $15,000; Fee Premium – 6.93%; Annual Flat Fee – $6,967.62; Rural CME starting at $3,000/annum in years 3 & 4 increasing to a maximum of $6,000/annum after 4 years.
