Immediate vacancy for a full-time Pediatrician. Nanaimo has 6 FTE pediatricians providing community and hospital based work with a 1:6 funded on-call schedule.
Our group rotates “on service” weeks at the hospital 1:6.
Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (224 acute beds) has a dedicated pediatric ward and active outpatient facility supported by a core team of pediatric nurses, dietician, diabetic nurse educator, social worker, and a full-time child life worker.
Experience and interest in participating in our Diabetes Clinic would be an asset as we anticipate a physician vacancy in this clinic in the next 1-2 years.
In terms of community work, we provide consultative care (primary care only for complex patients) and our current need (with long waitlists) is primarily in the assessment of school aged children with behavioural, developmental and mental health concerns. Interest and expertise in caring for this population would be an asset. Anticipated volume of referrals should provide average of 2 office days per week, for this position. Shared office space is available with reasonable overhead.
The hospital has a new state-of-the-art 9-bed, level 2b NICU, providing provincial beds to infants >32 weeks gestation, including short-term ventilation and TPN.
The Nanaimo medical community offers the opportunity for teaching and is a UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program site.
As soon as possible
