The Island Health Authority Division of Neurology has an opportunity to join a growing hospital and establish subspecialty services to service mid and upper Vancouver Island. The department is committed to providing the successful applicant with adequate resources to start a specialty clinic in a needed area 1 day a week. Nanaimo has a significant catchment and provides Neurology, Stroke, EMG, EEG and Neuro-Ophthalmology services to mid and upper Vancouver Island and some of the Sunshine Coast of BC. The successful applicant will be providing inpatient consultation services and outpatient tertiary care. Stroke call is shared among local colleagues and the Victoria Neurology Call Group. It is expected the successful applicant will build a community practice to augment their hospital services. The successful candidate with hold Royal College certification, be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, and demonstrate initiative and commitment to improving community based stroke care.
Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (315 acute care beds) is our regional referral hospital providing services to an immediate population of 125,000 and a secondary referral population of over 350,000. Hospital based services include Stroke Clinic, EEG, EMG, a rehabilitation inpatient unit, CT and MRI.
Academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Island Medical School postgraduate and undergraduate programs is available, and NRGH is a UBC Postgraduate Family Practice Residency Program site with 16 family practice residents.
