Compensation and Practice Design Support

Overview

Medical Staff, Compensation and Practice Design Support aligns with Medical and Academic Affairs’ physician engagement priorities and Medical Staff Human Resource Plan development by working collaboratively with programs to define physicians’ roles, services, and organizational impacts as well as providing support through financial analysis.

Practice Design

The team works collaboratively with Island Health programs, physicians, medical and operational leaders, and external partners, such as, the Ministry of Health and the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC), providing guidance on designing, developing and describing medical staff services at Island Health. 

The team supports the development of the Medical Staff Human Resource Plan by leading the development of practice descriptions for each physician role within Island Health.  These practice descriptions are designed to capture a comprehensive snap-shot of the physician’s roles and services, facilitate clarity and continuity of key services and provide valued insights as to impacts on patients, communities, and Island Health.

Finance

As a part of Island Health's Finance, Budget and Financial Analysis Department, we also provide support on financial information to both internal and external stakeholders.

The main functions performed are:

  • Developing and maintaining operating budgets for physician costs
  • Forecasting for Physician Compensation spending
  • Monitoring and analyzing expenditures against budget
  • Preparing Financial Performance Reports for leadership, the board of directors and funders. (e.g. Doctors of BC, Ministry of Health)
  • Providing specialised financial analysis and advice
