Island Health continues to set the standard for sustainable healthcare through its partnership with the Stryker Sustainability Solutions program. From 2021 to 2025, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) has emerged as a provincial leader in eco-conscious surgical practices.
NRGH's Sustainability Achievements:
- Top facility in BC for usage of surgical reprocessed devices
 - Leader within Island Health in surgical device collection
 - Highest overall use of reprocessed medical tools and equipment across Island Health
 - 5,750 pounds of waste collected via Stryker Sustainability green bin program
 - 3,801 pounds of waste diverted from landfill through reprocessed device usage
 - $826,041.88 saved from 2021 to 2025 by utilizing reprocessed devices
 - Leading BC for reprocessed device spend, including Electrophysiology Labs on the mainland
