Congratulations to Dr. Ramm Hering

We are pleased to announce Dr. Ramm Hering has assumed the role of Division Head for the new Division of Addiction Medicine (AM) in the Department of Medicine. He will work in this medical leadership role alongside Executive Medical Director, Dr Ashley Heaslip and Medical Director, Dr. Randal Mason in the Addiction Medicine & Substance Use program (AMSU).

Dr Hering received his medical degree at the University of Calgary, completed family medicine residency at Dalhousie and did a 1-year fellowship in AM at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Hering brings familiarity with AM at Island Health having previously been the first Medical Director for AM in MHSU. He is currently the Physician Lead for Addiction Medicine Consult Service (AMCS) at the RJH and VGH in Victoria as well as providing leadership for AM education for medical student and residents including being the Victoria site director for BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) AM Fellowship program.

Dr Hering works clinically at the Rapid Access Addiction Clinic (RAAC), the Victoria Community Medical Withdrawal Management Unit (Detox), the Addiction Outpatient Treatment (AOT) Clinic, and at the Pandora Clinic in addition to AMCS.  

Outside of his professional work, Ramm enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his children’s soccer, getting out into nature and commuting around Victoria on his bike rain or shine.
