About the Pain Program
The Regional Chronic Pain Program (the Pain Program) is a dynamic, multi-service outpatient clinic specialized in identifying pain sources and restoring function.
The program aims to improve quality of life and function for individuals with persistent pain. Patients must be referred to the program by a primary care provider.
Who We Are
The Pain Program’s interdisciplinary team is comprised of physicians, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, pharmacists, nursing staff, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, and clerical staff.
Based on individual needs, some patients might see several members of the Pain Team; others will see just one or two.

Locations
The Pain Program has two primary locations. Services are delivered in person and remotely, as appropriate and requested, by patients and providers.

General Information for Medical Staff
The Division of Multidisciplinary and Interventional Pain Management |
The Division is a group of physicians working collaboratively to provide interventional pain procedures as part of multidisciplinary teams providing multimodal assessment and treatment. The Division does not support injection focused/injection only practices to treat persistent pain. All Division members who have an interventional role in the clinic must have completed an accredited fellowship with an interventional pain focus. Members must be compliant with the highest tier of the Procedural Pain Management (PPM) privileging standard, as established by the British Columbia Medical Quality Initiative (BCMQI). |
Referral information |
Island Health’s Pain Program requires a referral from a primary care provider.
