on behalf of Kathy MacNeil, President & CEO
In light of last week's statement on anti-2SLGBTQIA+ protests and counter-protests, and in response to some very concerning messages directed at the author, I want to reaffirm that at Island Heath we stand in support of our 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and community members. Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the core of a compassionate workplace and we are committed to fostering a culture where all employees and the people we serve are protected, feel safe and are treated with dignity and respect.
At Island Health, our C.A.R.E values guide everything we do – at work and in our communities. We are a diverse group of staff, medical staff, students and volunteers that strives to deliver on our Vision: Excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time.
Diversity, equity and inclusion doesn't end at the workplace. It also extends to our local and online communities. At a time when violence towards transgender people and anti-trans discussions have increased, I encourage you to reflect on what you can do to live our C.A.R.E. values – to respect each individual and bring trust to every relationship.
Together, we can celebrate the richness of our diverse perspectives and experiences. We don't need to be united on every issue – but we must stand united against discrimination and will continue working to ensure that all employees can bring their whole selves to work, free from fear or prejudice.
If you need support, resources are available to you.
