Welcome, Dr. Mark Jones, to your new position as Medical Lead, Pediatrics at VGH. We asked Dr. Jones a few questions to get to know him; here is what he had to say.
Where did you complete medical school and residency?
I trained at the Royal Free Hospital in London, England and completed my Pediatric residency and Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship at B.C. Children's Hospital, in Vancouver.
Why did you choose your field of specialty?
I chose my specialty because it offers the most incredible medical experience available!
What is most meaningful to you about practicing medicine?
The opportunity to help children and their families is the most meaningful part of pediatric practice for me.
What are your professional interests and notable achievements?
My interests have varied throughout my career and include infectious disease, immunization, child public health and mental health. I was fortunate to have helped lead the most successful immunization program against the H1N1 pandemic in Europe.
What are your hopes for the future of healthcare?
Healthcare needs to refocus on the needs of children and youth living in poverty.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have been a lifelong runner and love the paths and trails in Victoria.
